Arzano. Clan of 167 between Camorra and religion: the statue of Padre Pio removed by the Carabinieri. It was a tribute to the Camorra.
A large statue placed to protect the neighborhood and its members, and a small playground were demolished yesterday during a raid carried out by the local police force.
The icon praising Saint Pio was placed within the popular neighborhood on Via Colombo, where until a few years ago there was widespread drug dealing and the sale of drugs and weapons, as well as illegal occupation of homes by high-ranking members of the local clan, an offshoot of the extremely powerful Amato-Pagano cartel.
Initial investigations revealed that the artifact and the rides had been commissioned by a prominent figure in organized crime. A tribute to the Saint, erected as a protective symbol. This protection apparently didn't work, given that the Carabinieri have made over 35 arrests in approximately two years of investigative activity.
The Camorra continues, therefore, to demonstrate a strong sense of devotion and attachment to religion. A constant that binds many allied clans. Years ago, in nearby Casavatore, the Carabinieri found and had demolished an artifact containing the statue of Padre Pio built by the father of a Camorra boss who died in 2003.

Even in nearby Casavatore the Ferone clan erected a similar statue
His son Ernesto Ferone, currently detained, is believed by investigators to be the head of the clan of the same name active in Casavatore and a leading figure in the clan that is currently allied with the Arzano branch of the secessionists.
It was 2022, however, when the procession of the Madonna dell'Arco was reported between the buildings of 167 and where years before there had even been the exhibition of the so-called battenti with banners depicting the Madonna.
