All the resources dedicated to electric cars by the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy (just over 200 million euros out of a total of 710 million) were booked in less than nine hours from the opening of the Ecobonus 2024 platform managed by Invite.

A success for the electric cars, while plug-in hybrids (21-60 g/km CO2) and hybrids (61-135 g/km CO2) had a lower response. For the former, 7 million out of 125,7 available were used, for the latter 64 million out of over 276,6.

"With this incentive plan, we're supporting families in purchasing eco-friendly cars by renewing their fleets and simultaneously stimulating domestic production.", says the minister Adolfo Urso. "It's an Italian Plan, for families and for Italian jobs."

A positive signal for the eco-friendly car sector, which in Italy stands at a share between 3% and 4%, a third of the European average.

"The interest in electric cars is certainly due to the size of the incentives, but also to an increased interest in this type of car."Comments Gian Primo Quagliano, president of the Promotor Study Centre. "What is surprising, however, is the modest share of reservations for internal combustion cars with emissions no higher than 135 g/km CO2."

One billion euros allocated

The government has allocated one billion euros for the car incentives 2024, but nearly 300 million have already been used with bookings in the first few months of the year. The incentives also apply to motorcycles and vans.

UNRAE emphasizes that not all funds have been made available and that a Prime Ministerial Decree is needed to avoid a period of market uncertainty. The industry is calling for incentives to be extended into the coming years, saying that they alone will not be enough to address the sector's transition. Among the demands is a radical overhaul of the vehicle tax system.

Anticipated incentives have dampened car sales in Italy. In May, registrations totaled 139.581, down 6,6% from the same month in 2023. The first five months of 3,45 were positive, with growth of 20,3%, even though the market is down 2019% compared to the same period in XNUMX.

Stellantis In May, the company registered 42.334 vehicles, 13,9% fewer than in the same month last year, and its market share fell from 2023% to 32,9%. In the first five months of the year, the group delivered 30,3 vehicles, down 235.383% from the same period last year, with its market share falling from 0,3% to 33,6%.

According to the Centro Studi Promotor, one dealer out of two expects an increase in sales, 39% talk about stability and 13% have negative forecasts.

Federauto's doubts

Federauto expresses concern over the exhaustion of Ecobonus funds for electric cars. "We ask the competent authorities to investigate this anomalous phenomenon further.", says the president Massimo Artusi.
