In recent days, the Benevento Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza conducted two separate operations that led to the seizure of two illegal landfills in the municipality of San Salvatore Telesino. The operations are part of institutional services aimed at economic control of the area.

During the first operation, the soldiers of the Solopaca Tenancy found, on a piece of municipal property, eight abandoned cubic bales, containing clothes, personal accessories (belts, bags, shoes and stuffed toys). The total weight of this waste amounts to approximately 2,5 tons. The circumstances of time and place configured the presence of an unauthorized waste dump.

The second operation involved an area of approximately 18.440 square meters, owned by three residents of San Salvatore Telesino and a company from northern Italy. In this area, officers discovered an uncontrolled dump of hazardous waste, including plastic materials, tires, ferrous materials, automotive parts, electrical and household appliances, aggregates from building demolitions, and asbestos. This waste poses a serious risk to human health and poses a serious threat to the environment.

Following these activities, both areas were seized in violation of Article 256, paragraph 1 of Legislative Decree 152/2006. The owners of the areas were reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Benevento. Considering that the seized areas are located in an agricultural zone, the Judicial Authority authorized the Regional Environmental Protection Agency - Provincial Department of Benevento to carry out inspections and a technical assessment to evaluate the extent of the environmental damage and the risks to public health.
