Throughout 2023 and the first five months of 2024, the Guardia di Finanza in Campania intensified its efforts to protect public spending, achieving significant results in the fight against fraud, especially those related to the misappropriation of public funds allocated following the pandemic.
Fictitious Tax Credits and Citizenship Income Scams
As underlined by Major General Giancarlo Trotta, Regional Commander of the GdF in Campania, numerous frauds have been discovered, in particular through the creation of tax credits fictitious.
PNRR checks: over 1,1 billion euros at risk
Over 1.607 interventions were carried out to verify the correct use of tax credits, contributions and financing related to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). In this context, illicit activities worth over 1,1 billion euros were discovered.

In the public procurement sector, the Guardia di Finanza supervised the awarding of contracts and the execution of works and services, monitoring investments totaling €1,6 billion.
Money laundering and self-laundering: 3,6 billion euros of illegal operations
There was also intense activity on the money laundering and self-laundering front, with 593 operations conducted by the five Campania provincial commands. The reconstructed illicit operations amounted to €3,6 billion, with 1.198 people reported and 72 arrested.
