The ground at Campi Flegrei has risen by one centimeter in the last week. This is according to the weekly bulletin from the Vesuvius Observatory of the INGV, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, which covers the period from May 29 to June 2, 2024.
Instead, in the last few months, from mid-April to May 20, the deformation had settled at 2 cm per month.
In the week from May 27 to June 2, 2024, 56 earthquakes with a magnitude greater than zero were located in the Campi Flegrei area (last week there were 274, ed.) (therefore events with a negative magnitude are not taken into account, ed.). The most energetic events had a maximum magnitude of 1.7.
From mid-April to May 20, the mean value of the uplift velocity in the area of maximum deformation is about 20+/3 mm/month at the Rione Terra (RITE) GNSS station.

Following the swarm of 20-21 May, some GNSS stations in the central area recorded a coseismic subsidence of about 0.5-1 cm.
Subsequently, no significant variations were observed until 29/05, when a ground uplift of approximately 1 cm was recorded at the RITE GNSS station and in nearby ones.
ll lift recorded at the RITE GPS station (Terra district) is approximately 122,5 cm since January 2011, (in the bulletins of the last few weeks it was 121,5 cm - editor's note) of which approximately 26,5 cm since January 2023 and 8,5 cm since January 2024 (the uplift has been approximately 128,5 centimetres since November 2005, exceeding by approximately 34,5 centimetres the maximum uplift level reached with the last bradyseismic crisis of the 80s).
Since November 2005, the ground has risen 128,5 centimeters
Soil CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) fluxes measured over the past week (Pisciarelli station) have not shown significant variations compared to previous weeks. A fumarolic emission occurs in the Pisciarelli area, approximately 5 meters as the crow flies from the main fumarole. No significant temperature variations have been recorded over the past week, with the average temperature being 95°C (last week's average was also ~95°C).
