The Court of Cassation has upheld the appeals filed by the lawyers of Francesco Napolitano and Michele Olimpio, overturning the life sentences handed down to them in the second instance for the murder of Mario Di Lorenzo, which took place in Giugliano in Campania in 1996.
Napolitano and Olimpio, believed to be the leaders of the Mallardo clan and leading figures in the "Secondigliano Alliance," were sentenced to life imprisonment in the first instance in March 2021, and the sentence was upheld on appeal in October 2023.
The charges against them were based mainly on the statements of collaborators of justice Filippo Caracallo and Giuliano Pirozzi.

However, the Court of Cassation deemed that the reasons behind the convictions were not sufficient and annulled the previous sentences. The accusations made by the repentants, according to the Supreme Court, were not considered credible.
The case of the two exponents of the Mallard clan it will therefore be discussed again at the referral stage.
