An artificial island in the Gulf of Dubai, called "Taiwan", has been seized by the Naples Prosecutor's Office at the request of investigating judge Maria Luisa Miranda.
The island, part of an artificial archipelago called "The World," was built with the money of repentant Camorra drug trafficker Raffaele Imperiale, now a defendant in a drug trafficking trial in Naples.
Imperiale had told prosecutor Maurizio De Marco that the island had been built with the contribution of a famous architect and that its value fluctuated between 30 and 50 million dollars.

The seizure of the island, as Il Mattino reported, is an important step in the investigation against Imperiale and represents a further sign of his cooperation with justice. Imperiale had already handed over to Italian authorities the Van Gogh paintings that had been stolen in Holland.
The island is valued between $30 and $50 million.
Now the Naples Prosecutor's Office will have to activate international letters rogatory to obtain formal possession of the island and then confiscate and monetize it. The proceeds from the sale of the island could be used to compensate the victims of Imperiale's crimes.
