Naples. A meeting convened by the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, was held at the Government Palace to mark the launch of the 2024 forest fire prevention campaign.
The meeting was organized "to review the initiatives undertaken by the relevant bodies and to encourage every useful form of collaboration between all components of the Civil Protection system."
The meeting was attended by Italo Giulivo, the Director General of Public Works and Civil Protection for the Campania Region, the mayors of the municipalities in the metropolitan area, representatives of the police forces, the Carabinieri Forestry Corps, the provincial fire brigade command, COMFOP SUD, and the ANCI.
The issues related to risks arising from forest and interface fires and the organizational measures suitable for strengthening the system's response capacity were examined, in order to improve its effectiveness in terms of forecasting, prevention, and active control.

The preparation and updating of municipal civil protection plans, with particular attention to fire risk.
Adoption of specific ordinances for the prevention of fires along roads, in the countryside, and in forests, following the Campania Region's guidelines, including bans on burning plant and forest debris during periods of maximum risk, and updating the register of areas affected by fires.
Reporting to the Regional Civil Protection Department any activities with a high risk of explosion and/or flammability. A list of water supplies within the municipality.
The implementation of information and awareness-raising activities among the population.
The recent fire on the hill of the Camaldoli highlighted the need for constant attention on this issue.
"The timely adoption of the measures outlined is essential to ensure efficient and integrated cooperation between all components of the forest fire prevention system, for the safety of citizens and the protection of the environment," the statement concludes.
