From 15 June to 15 October 2024, the period of serious danger for forest fires comes into force in Campania.
The measure, ordered by the General Directorate of Civil Protection of the Campania Region, aims to protect the forest heritage during the summer months, when the risk of fires is higher.
What changes:
It is prohibited to light open fires in woods and within 100 meters of them, as well as in pastures.
Ban on burning of plant, agricultural and forestry residues.
Ban on burning stubble and weeds, even uncultivated ones.
It is prohibited to set off fireworks, rockets of any kind, paper hot air balloons ("flying lanterns"), and other pyrotechnic items within 1 km of woods and pastures (except where otherwise permitted).
Prohibition of using motors or stoves that produce embers or sparks, and of using flame or electric appliances to cut metals.
Do not detonate mines, smoke or perform any other actions that may create a fire hazard (such as throwing matches or lit cigarettes).
Parking of motor vehicles on unpaved roads in wooded areas is prohibited.
Measures for authorities:
Precautions for military exercises and train transit in wooded areas.
Measures for private individuals:
Dealers of off-site LPG and diesel fuel systems are required to keep the area surrounding the tank clear and free of vegetation for a radius of at least 6 meters.
Owners or holders of wooded areas are required to provide for clearing of brush along the edges of woods and to create a buffer zone free of vegetation along the perimeter of wooded areas to delay or prevent the spread of fires.
Recommendations:
The Civil Protection of the Campania Region invites mayors to strengthen reconnaissance, surveillance, sighting and alarm activities for forest fires in their territory, also by making use of volunteer associations.
Raising awareness among citizens, farmers' associations, and breeders to promote a culture of civil protection and proper behavior for environmental protection.
Obligations for Municipalities:
Establishment and updating of the register of areas affected by fire.
Drafting and updating of the civil protection plan which also takes into account the risk forest fires and interface.
