The government reserves the right to re-plan the Campi Flegrei area. Civil Protection Minister Nello Musumeci stated this at a press conference at Palazzo Chigi.
"Here's the problem, the raw nerve: the civil protection code requires that urban planning, from the northern border to the last strip of land in the south, must be defined together with civil protection planning. This has never been done.
For this reason," Musumeci specified, "we reserve the right to re-plan the areas most at risk, in agreement with the Campania Region, which has specific authority in this matter.

If this were the case, to safeguard human life, intervention will be necessary, and those responsible will do so, to prevent human presence in those areas particularly at risk."
"We hope," added Minister Musumeci, "that this measure will further remind every institutional body of its responsibilities. We are doing everything that hasn't been done for decades, and we continue to urge citizens to maintain a vigilant coexistence with the risks in that area.
The national department, the government, will continue to exercise its role of stimulation and supervision, since there is fear that in this regulatory chaos someone could carve out a space for themselves to transfer to others responsibilities that pertain to their own role or that of the institution they represent".
