The voice of the inhabitants of Pozzuoli and of the Phlegraean Fields it rises loud and clear, resounding from via Napoli to the “Palazzine”.
Gathered in the Bradyseism Permanent Assembly, citizens express their growing concern for the current situation and denounce the inadequacy of the responses provided so far by local and national institutions, accused of pursuing a dangerous return to normality without considering the interests of the inhabitants most affected by the bradyseismic crisis. In a statement released in recent days, the assembly declared: "We have simple needs. Without the resolution of these, any return to normality will only serve to restart the city's economy, without protecting the inhabitants in any way, especially those who have been evicted from their homes."
The committee's requests are clear and urgent: the verification and safety of all public and private buildings at the expense of the State, the creation of first aid stations in various points of the Flegrean Area, the suspension of rent, mortgage and utility payments for everyone, and accommodation in structures requisitioned in the area, at the expense of the State, during the period of renovation and safety. Furthermore, they ask for written insurance for the displaced regarding their return to their homes once they have been renovated or rebuilt.
The banners of protest that adorn the Campi Flegrei highlight discontent and distrust in institutions. "They ask us to wait for the new measures, but our trust is very low. In the past, politics has done nothing but think about its own interests of power, completely neglecting the needs and life of the people of Campi Flegrei," reads the press release.
The assembly recalls past episodes such as the deportation to Monteruscello and the forced eviction of Rione Terra, examples of political decisions that ignored the needs of the local population. For this reason, the inhabitants of Pozzuoli and Campi Flegrei are invited to actively participate in the struggle and mobilization to ensure that their interests are protected.
“The only guarantee for our future is popular control over every political decision and the economic resources allocated. The silence and waiting of the institutions are not a guarantee, but a danger,” concludes the press release of the Bradyseism Permanent Assembly.
