Caserta. A 46-year-old man was arrested by Carabinieri officers from the San Nicola la Strada station on charges of aggravated fraud. He was posing as a Carabinieri marshal to lure his victims on online buying and selling sites.

The scammer contacted people who sold valuable watches and, taking advantage of the trust that his fake uniform inspired, convinced them to send him the precious objects via courier. Once the watches were received, the fake marshal disappeared into thin air without ever paying the agreed price.

The scammer's latest haul was a Rolex GMT Master and a Tudor Big Block, worth a combined €18.000. To convince the victim to send him the watches, the scammer told her that one of them was of illicit origin and that he would have to investigate.

However, the victim understood the scam and alerted the Carabinieri. The military managed to identify the scammer just as he was about to collect another package from a courier.

During the search of his home in Castel Volturno, the Carabinieri found another Rolex, several cell phones registered to different people and a computer with the history of his scams.

Furthermore, while the Carabinieri were in action, they received a call from another man who had been scammed for a Rolex Submarine "Hulk" worth 14.500 euros.

The man, already known to law enforcement for similar crimes, was arrested and placed under house arrest pending trial.
