The former mayor of Castel Volturno, Antonio Scalzone, and the former deputy mayor Lorenzo Marcello, were acquitted of the charge of external competition with the Camorra because the fact did not exist.
This is the ruling of the second section, panel C, of the Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, which sentenced the collaborator of justice Gaetano Vassallo to one year and six months, in continuation of a previous conviction, and Davide Granato to 3 years and 3 months of imprisonment.
All the other defendants were acquitted for satellite crimes due to the statute of limitations. The public prosecutor of the DDA of Naples, Maurizio Giordano, had requested a sentence of 7 years in prison only for Marcello.
According to the DDA of Naples, the clan of Casale would have influenced the actions of the Municipality of Castel Volturno in relation to the construction of the Giolì Shopping Centre and other public works.
The Gioli shopping centre was under accusation
But the court deemed the infiltration to be non-existent, as was the case for another branch of the trial in which another former mayor of Castel Volturno, the former magistrate Francesco Nuzzo, had been acquitted for external competition and corruption.
