112 people arrested, including 85 in prison, 16 already detained and 27 under house arrest, this is the result of a large anti-drug operation conducted in Messina by the Prosecutor's Office and the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command.
The investigations, coordinated by the DDA since January 2021, have brought to light the existence of several criminal organizations dedicated to drug trafficking, active between Messina and the Barcellona area and with connections in Calabria, Campania, Lombardy, and abroad.
Cocaine, hashish, marijuana and spice: the drugs came from different areas of Italy and abroad: Calabria for cocaine, Naples and Milan for hashish, Spain for hashish and Holland for spice.
The investigation, which involved wiretaps, tailing, drug and cash seizures, and the testimony of justice collaborators, led to the dismantling of the criminal gangs and the seizure of 120 kg of drugs, €226.000 in cash, two rifles, and three pistols.
Twenty-three people were arrested in flagrante delicto and 23 were reported to the Prefecture as drug users. In the Giostra district of Messina, the Carabinieri discovered actual "forts" used for drug storage.
A Carabiniere was injured in the foot while attempting to enter one of these forts in 2021. The group is estimated to have a turnover of around 500.000 euros a month.
