Over the past weekend, Mergellina has seen increased law enforcement operations, culminating in the arrest of 76 criminals. The operation, conducted by officers from the Office of General Prevention and Public Rescue, was supported by Local Police personnel and primarily targeted the nightlife area around the Mergellina chalets and Largo Sermoneta.
The checkpoint operation took place over several hours, aimed at ensuring safety in one of the city's busiest areas over the weekend. Officers identified a total of 363 people, including 76 with criminal records.
In addition to the checks on pedestrians, the operation Mergellina included the control of 149 vehicles, a measure necessary to combat the use of stolen cars or cars used for illegal activities. During these checks, seven violations of the Highway Code were found and contested. These violations range from driving without a license to lack of insurance, through minor violations that, added together, contribute to creating potentially dangerous situations.
