Serious inconvenience for the tourist operators of the Amalfi Coast, in particular for the tourist bus sector.

This morning, in a surprise decision, the Province of Salerno (at the request of the Municipality of Amalfi) banned all tourist buses, regardless of their size, from travelling on the provincial road to Agerola.

This means that, from today onwards, operators driving 10, 16 or 19-seater vehicles will no longer be able to reach Positano via the only possible alternative road to the SS 163 “Amalfitana”, which is currently closed due to falling rocks.

The consequences of this decision are serious:

Hundreds of bookings have been cancelled and many operators have been forced to cancel tours already sold.
Tourists who had booked their “dream trip” to the Amalfi Coast Coast they risk not being able to reach their destination.
In addition to tourists, local residents and operators will also suffer the inconvenience caused by this decision.

Trade associations protest:

Vincenzo Schiavo, president of Confesercenti Napoli e Campania: “There is a lot of talk about tourism, but then at the first opportunity there is no hesitation in sacrificing it. This decision is wrong and will cause a lot of damage. We ask for the immediate restoration of two-way traffic on the SS 163 'Amalfitana' for buses longer than 6,30 meters and at least up to 8 meters.”

Gennaro Lametta, coordinator Assoturismo/Confesercenti Campania: “The authorities should clear the SS 163 of cars parked everywhere instead of paralyzing tourism.”

Federnoleggio has announced a state of agitation for all categories of Assoturismo/Confesercenti.
