Donatella Di Pietrantonio, with her book "L'età fragile" (Einaudi), is the winner of the 2024 Strega Giovani Prize. This prestigious award, promoted by the Maria and Goffredo Bellonci Foundation and Strega Alberti Benevento, was awarded to her thanks to the 138 preferences out of 605 votes cast by a jury of girls and boys aged 16 to 18 from 103 secondary schools spread across Italy and abroad.
Award Announcement
The winner of the eleventh edition of the Strega Giovani Prize was announced on June 4th at the Teatro di Tor Bella Monaca in Rome, during the first stage of the Bellonci Foundation's new project "Stories of the Suburbs." The initiative aims to bring the suburbs back to the center of history. In her book "L'età fragile," Di Pietrantonio recalls a crime story that occurred in her hometown in 1997, the Morrone crime, and addresses crucial issues such as gender violence and stereotypes about the safety of small provincial towns.

In addition to Di Pietrantonio, two other writers placed on the podium: Antonella Lattanzi with "Cose che non si raccontano" (Einaudi) with 72 votes, and Chiara Valerio with "Chi dice e chi tace" (Sellerio) with 67 votes. The three award-winning books also received one vote counting towards the finalists for the Strega Prize. The event, hosted by Loredana Lipperini, took place in a packed Tor Bella Monaca theater, and received the patronage of the Chamber of Deputies.
