Naples. Tragedy this morning in Ponticelli, where a 67-year-old woman lost her life after being hit by a tractor-trailer. The accident occurred on Via Argine, at the intersection of Viale Margherita.
According to a statement from the city, the woman was crossing the street when she was hit by the heavy vehicle. The driver, a fifty-year-old Neapolitan, "presumably unaware he had hit the woman ," left the scene without providing assistance.
Rescue and investigations
Thanks to the testimony of some passers-by, the responsible vehicle was quickly identified and stopped shortly after the accident, while it was proceeding in the opposite direction to that of the accident.
The officers of the Naples Local Police - Road Accident Operations Unit - intervened on site and carried out the technical surveys, acquired the images from the video surveillance cameras, seized the articulated lorry and subjected the driver to toxicological analyses.

The man has been charged with manslaughter, hit-and-run, and failure to render assistance . The City Council extends its condolences to the victim's family and urges all drivers to follow the Highway Code to prevent similar tragedies.
