Naples. Tragedy this morning in Ponticelli, where a 67-year-old woman lost her life after being hit by an articulated lorry. The accident occurred on via Argine, at the intersection with viale Margherita.

According to a note from the Municipality, the woman was crossing the road when she was hit by the heavy vehicle. The driver, a fifty-year-old Neapolitan, “presumably not realizing he had hit the woman”, left the scene of the accident without providing assistance.
Rescue and investigations
Thanks to the testimony of some passers-by, the responsible vehicle was quickly identified and stopped shortly after the accident, while it was proceeding in the opposite direction to that of the accident.
The officers of the Naples Local Police - Road Accident Operations Unit - intervened on site and carried out the technical surveys, acquired the images from the video surveillance cameras, seized the articulated lorry and subjected the driver to toxicological analyses.
The driver reported
The man was charged with manslaughter, escape and failure to rescue. The Municipal Administration expresses its condolences to the victim's family and calls on all motorists to respect the Highway Code to avoid similar tragedies.
