Naples. Judge Linda Comella of the Naples Court has sentenced Gianluca Sivo, the motorcyclist responsible for the murder of Elvira Zibra, the young woman mowed down in Mergellina two summers ago, to five years in prison.
The sentence was issued with an abbreviated procedure, which provides for a reduction of one third, and Sivo will also have to compensate the victim's family with 70 thousand euros.
Sivo was without a license and was traveling at 78 km/h
On the evening of August 29, 2022, Sivo was riding a motorbike borrowed from a friend, without a license and at a speed of 78 km/h, when he hit Elvira Zibra who was crossing the street to throw out the garbage. The impact was very violent and the woman died instantly.
Victim's family: "Justice has been done, but Elvira will not come back"
Elvira's family, assisted by lawyer Giuseppe Catalano , have joined the trial as a civil party. The victim's mother, as reported by Il Mattino, which broke the news, already devastated by the loss of her son Mustapha , who died in a similar car accident a few months earlier, commented: "Justice has been done, but Elvira will not go back. I hope this sentence serves as a warning to all those who drive recklessly."
Defense announces appeal
Sivo's lawyer, Giuseppe D'Alise , announced he will appeal: "We will read the ruling's reasons and then make our assessments. In court, we tried to demonstrate that the poor lighting and the absence of pedestrian crossings near the accident site played a role in the tragedy."
