Naples. Enrico Vitale, the 21-year-old Neapolitan man involved in a serious accident on June 12, has died after nine days of agony.
Originally from Posillipo, Enrico fought between life and death for nine days in the Intensive Care Unit of the Cardarelli hospital, but unfortunately he did not survive the serious injuries he suffered.
The accident, which occurred on Corso Secondigliano, saw the young man collide first with a scooter and then with a car.
This new tragedy increases the already worrying number of victims of the roads reported in Naples in recent weeks and which since the beginning of 2024 counts 15 deaths, including 7 pedestrians hit and 7 motorcyclists.
Among the victims there is also a woman of foreign origin, hit by an Asìa truck while she was riding her bicycle. Particularly painful is the fact that among the deceased there are three minors, including 17-year-old Arcangelo Riposo, who died in San Giuseppe Vesuviano on May 29.
On the day of the accident, Enrico was riding a scooter with a 17-year-old friend around five in the morning, when he collided with another motorcycle driven by a 41-year-old Neapolitan, losing control and crashing into a parked car.
The Municipal Police Road Accident Unit, led by Vincenzo Cirillo, is investigating the accident . Initial investigations suggest the initial impact occurred at number 220, throwing Enrico into the oncoming lane.
Of those involved in the accident, only Enrico required urgent hospital treatment due to severe head trauma, which led to the declaration of brain death on Friday afternoon.
The dynamics of the accident are still unclear
The investigations include technical surveys, toxicological and alcohol tests, and the analysis of images from cameras in the area, despite the limited presence of video surveillance.
No crash helmets were found at the scene, but it is not excluded that they were being worn. All vehicles involved were impounded.
