Naples. History turns into abandonment and sadness. The view, which should range over the islands of Ischia, Capri and Procida, the Pontine islands (Ventotene and Ponza), the southern Lazio coast, the Circeo promontory (province of Latina, Lazio) and the mountains of the Matese massif, now stops at degradation and waste.
This is the sad end to which the website of theHermitage of the Camaldoli, where the former Benedictine monastery stands. The historical importance and beauty of the landscape have given way to neglect, overgrown vegetation, illegal dumping, abandoned and dilapidated structures, and the rubbish left behind by picnickers.
