The Italian national team's Euro 2024 jersey is sparking a wave of criticism among heraldry and flag experts. The reason? The three stripes of the Italian tricolor, which appear to be drawn backwards. According to vexillological tradition, the Italian flag features green near the pole, followed by white, and finally red.
However, on the shirts worn by Stretcher and companions, green is found closest to the chest, followed by white and red. "It is a vexillological rule - says the expert Mario Carassai - that a flag, when necessary, can be displayed horizontally by rotating it 90 degrees clockwise. Therefore, when displaying the tricolor from a window, the green color is displayed at the top."

Carassai emphasizes that This is unjustifiable because the correct image of the jersey is from the front (not the side or back), and therefore, from the front, the green band should have been at the top. On the national team's jersey, however, the red stripe is at the top. Football fans attend matches cheering for the national team, singing the national anthem at the top of their lungs, but the colors are not the Italian ones.
"They are the colors of Hungary in the blue shirt." The heraldry expert hypothesizes that perhaps the intention was to honor the Young Italy of Mazzini's memory, whose flag had horizontal bands with red at the top. However, Carassai concludes, "This is a real mess broadcast worldwide, and Orban is grateful."

Mr. Carassai should perhaps study how football shirt graphics work before speaking, because by doing so he would understand that the sequence of colors is correct, since it must be imagined that dynamically the player moving forward makes the green color arrive first.
