Naples. False hiring of migrants: a deep-rooted system that exploits their vulnerability
A phenomenon widespread throughout Italy.
Investigations reveal a widespread system of false hiring of migrants in several Italian regions, including Puglia, Campania, Calabria and even in the North. Unscrupulous employers exploit the vulnerability of these people and their desire to obtain a residence permit to make illicit profits.
The methods of fraud appear to be similar in different areas of the country. Employers promise migrants the regularization of their status in exchange for sums of money, often large. By falsifying deeds and documents, they certify fictitious hiring and illegally collect the related state contributions.
A phenomenon that has been carefully monitored for some time.

Alarming numbers and illicit profits
In Salento alone, three entrepreneurs were arrested for facilitating the illegal immigration of over 900 migrants, earning over €1,3 million. In Cerignola, twenty people were arrested for falsely hiring agricultural laborers, with a fee of €3.000 per migrant.
Non-isolated cases: a widespread plague
Investigations opened in Parma, Modena and Calabria confirm that this is a widespread and deep-rooted phenomenon, not isolated cases. Migrants, driven by desperation and the hope of a better future, become victims of exploitation by unscrupulous individuals.
The intervention of the authorities and the complaint of the Prime Minister
Prosecutor's offices in several cities, including Naples, are investigating these crimes. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni herself has denounced the phenomenon by filing a complaint with the Anti-Mafia Commission. The National Anti-Mafia Directorate has clarified its role in "promoting and coordinating" the ongoing investigations.
