Change at the top of Gesco: the president and founder of the historic consortium of social cooperatives in Campania Sergio D'Angelo is leaving the leadership after 33 years. The group's director, Giacomo Smarrazzo, will take over as president. The announcement was made this afternoon during a Gesco employee meeting.

«It is a natural changeover, in the name of continuity» explains Sergio D'Angelo, who remains within the Board of Directors Gesco and will continue to deal with the cultural direction of the group. Fifty-eight years old, Neapolitan, graduated in Economics and Commerce, expert in social cooperation, Giacomo Smarrazzo has long been the administrative manager and vice president of Dedalus, a social cooperative adhering to Gesco.

Since 2020 he has been the group director and CEO, while since 2012 he has been the president of Era, the cooperative with the largest membership base of Gesco (it has 215 members and 300 employees) born from the union of four historic cooperatives of the consortium. He is part of the national presidency committee of Legacoop sociali.

«It is a delicate moment of profound transformation for the entire third sector – declares Giacomo Smarrazzo – for this reason my presidency begins with the reconstruction of the ownership base of Gesco, first of all by redefining a participatory pact with the member cooperatives and verifying the possibility of opening up direct membership to Gesco to individuals, workers and operators first of all».

«The goal – concludes the new president of Gesco – is that the transformation path underway can also materialize in a greater and more widespread ownership of the consortium, which guarantees protagonism and participation. This is the true heritage that Gesco possesses today: a varied world made of experiences, militancy and potential force for social change".
