Removing physical, cognitive and sensorial barriers in the Museo Campano in Capua is the goal of the project promoted by the Province of Caserta and funded by the Ministry of Culture with PNRR funds. The initiative, launched recently, aims to develop an innovative model of accessibility and inclusiveness, also involving the local community in its implementation and dissemination.
Accessibility and Inclusivity Interventions
Several actions are planned, including a new access to the routes and services, made possible through interventions for the elimination of architectural barriers, the implementation of internal signage and highly readable information systems. This will allow easier and more autonomous use by all.
Accessible Museum Routes
Accessible museum itineraries have been designed with the introduction of videos in Italian Sign Language (LIS), audio tours and tactile support devices for the enjoyment of the exhibited works. This solution will allow for greater inclusiveness, also allowing people with sensory disabilities to fully appreciate the museum's exhibits.
Staff training
Another crucial point of the project is the specific training of the staff. This initiative aims to guarantee an inclusive and professional welcome, ensuring that all the staff is adequately prepared to assist visitors with different needs.
Enhancement of the Educational Offer
The enhancement of the educational offer represents a further objective. The project includes the creation of paths dedicated to the weakest segments of the population and awareness-raising and information actions on the theme of inclusiveness. In this way, the museum can become a point of reference not only culturally but also socially.
Investment and Recognition
The Province of Caserta has obtained an important recognition for its project, positioned 53rd in Italy out of 706 proposals in the specific ranking. The overall investment of 293 thousand euros is financed by the European Union with PNRR funds – Next generation EU, through the measure “M1C3 Investment 1.2 – Removal of physical and cognitive barriers in museums, libraries and archives, to allow wider access and participation in culture”.
Statements by the Authorities
“We continue to invest in our beautiful Museo Provinciale Campano di Capua,” says President Giorgio Magliocca, “with projects that this time focus on the accessibility and inclusiveness of our museum itinerary. A unique treasure chest of art, history and culture, the pride of the province of Caserta and the entire Campania region, which we are enhancing and promoting in the best possible way.”
The director of the Museum Gianni Solino adds: “With this intervention we recognize accessibility as a key element of the strategy of the Museo Campano. It is not only a matter of eliminating the few architectural barriers that still exist, but also of facilitating the enjoyment of the works on display for different types of public, reducing inequalities and carrying out an important work of awareness in our territory on the issues of inclusiveness”.
