A meeting was held today at the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy (MIMIT) to discuss the Jabil dispute, a company that on April 30 announced its intention to close its Marcianise plant.
Fim, Fiom and Uilm have expressed their firm opposition to the closure of the site, reiterating the need for Jabil to assume its responsibilities and remain in Marcianise.
The unions are complaining that the company, after having benefited from social safety nets and proposed failed reindustrialization plans, is now proposing yet another divestment plan that would only lead to further divestments.
"We are not willing to undertake reindustrialization that would result in job losses in an area already severely affected by industrial desertification," the unions say. "We ask Jabil to remain in Marcianise and invest in the future of the site and its workers."
A territorial strike by metalworkers in Caserta is planned for tomorrow to protest against the closure of Jabil and to claim the right to work and to the development of the territory.
The company has committed to responding to the unions' demands in the next few hours.
