"We started by tracking down sellers of fake labels, then we found the sellers on the street and we got to the 'boss of counterfeit oil'. Then, at the end of April, the Carabinieri seized about 900 liters of oil and counterfeit labels in Caivano," says Abete, who has been investigating the matter since December 2023.
The “dealers” continue to flood the Neapolitan market with “pezzotte” bottles. This time the correspondent focuses on a wholesaler who works as a cook in a restaurant.
His bottles, however, are crude imitations of those of Bertolli Oil. When tested, the product was found to be a blend of seed oils, not extra virgin olive oil. When he meets him, the chef-salesman denies everything and leaves, not without threatening Abete: "Either I'll send you to the hospital, or you'll get out of my way."
