A quiet evening out at dinner turned into a nightmare for a Caserta family attacked by an unlicensed parking attendant for resisting an extortionate demand. The parking fee had increased by 1000% during the evening. The father, currently hospitalized in Aversa, recounts the incident.
The man, who will undergo surgery for a head injury, a broken finger, and a badly damaged eye, reported the accident to Green-Left Alliance MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli. “On Wednesday I had decided to go with my wife and children to dinner at a restaurant in Marechiaro" explains the man.
“When we got there, an illegal parking attendant made me park in a private lot fenced off by a gate. During the evening, the attendant came to me at my table, demanding that I move my car because the gate would be closed soon. Once we reached the car, he told me the parking fee had gone from €5 to €50. My wife intervened, saying she could pay €10 at most. He refused, shoved her, and slapped her. When I intervened, he beat me savagely, causing me to fall and hit my head on the car. Even as I was on the ground, he continued to kick me in the face. I feel very bad now, but what makes me even angrier is that my three children had to witness this violence. Despite the screams, no one helped us, probably out of fear or collusion with the criminal.”
Francesco Emilio Borrelli commented: This is yet another criminal incident that could have turned into a tragedy. We will work to ensure this criminal, as reported by the victim, ends up in prison. Those who defended these scoundrels, calling them 'poor fathers who just make ends meet,' still have the courage to speak out? They are extortionists, often in the pay of clans, and they use violence to extract payment for their rackets. The government has not yet accepted our proposal to introduce a criminal offense for parking violations. The citizens support our battle, and we must win it.
