The operation to control kiosks along Naples's seafront represents a strong signal of the institutions' commitment to combating illegal activities, protecting legality and urban decorum, and ensuring the safe and enjoyable use of an area much loved by residents and visitors.
"We've been calling for a frontal operation for some time," says the Honorable Francesco Emilio Borrelli, "since the area is clearly out of control. I recently spoke about it with the Prefect and Councilor De Iesu. Some chalets have now completely taken over every space, be it sidewalk or road surface.
Others are gathering places for criminals and Camorra offspring. Still others have committed abuses, unauthorized water and electricity connections, and illegally dump sewage into the sea.
