
The African anticyclone Scipione arrives in Italy, bringing with it the first heat wave of the summer.
The heat is caused by the expansion of a pressure gap between the Canary Islands, Morocco, and the Iberian Peninsula. This low-pressure area pushes moisture-laden subtropical continental air masses from the Sahara northward.
Between Friday and Saturday the peak of the heat is expected in the Center-North, with peaks of 40°C. In the South, maximum temperatures will reach 39-40°C between Sunday and Monday.
In addition to high temperatures, significant humidity is also expected, especially in the Po Valley, in the Alpine valleys and in the inland plains of Central Italy.
