A mild low-pressure system is moving across the central Mediterranean, bringing cooler air to high altitudes and unstable weather to several Italian regions. The Alps and northern Apennines are particularly affected by cloud cover, showers, and scattered thunderstorms. Inland areas of central and southern Italy are also experiencing isolated phenomena.
In the coming days, however, the African anticyclone will bring a significant change: temperatures will rise and the weather will be much more stable. The heatwave is expected to peak by the weekend, with temperatures expected to exceed the seasonal average by about 10 degrees, especially in central and southern Italy.
Il Centro Weather Italian forecasts predict this period of intense heat won't last long. Toward the end of the weekend, the arrival of cooler air could bring a drop in temperatures, accompanied by thunderstorms starting in northern Italy. Today, in the north, the morning will see partly cloudy or patchy skies, with isolated showers between Piedmont and Veneto.
In the afternoon, instability will increase with scattered showers and thunderstorms across all areas. In the evening and overnight, residual precipitation will affect the Alpine and Prealpine regions, while elsewhere the sky will be partly cloudy. In Central Italy, the morning will be characterized by mostly sunny skies.
In the afternoon, local precipitation is expected in the Apennine areas, while elsewhere there will be no significant changes. The evening will see an improvement in the weather, with clear or partly cloudy skies. In the South and on the Islands, the morning will present large spaces of clear skies in the peninsular regions and partly cloudy skies on the islands.
