Naples, huge brown slick in the sea of San Giovanni a Teduccio. Alarmed citizens send photos to deputy Borrelli: "Immediate checks requested on lifting systems, sea resource to be protected"
Images of a large brown slick stretching for hundreds of meters in the waters of San Giovanni a Teduccio, near the ABC water pumping plants, were sent by concerned residents to the Green Left Alliance MP, Francesco Emilio Borrelli.
“We also forwarded the photos to the Port Authority, but they do not have patrol boats to collect samples for analysis. It is not right that a population already severely penalized by urban decay should also have to suffer this. We are still waiting for the redevelopment of our coastline,” the citizens declared.
“I requested at Arpac immediate checks on the origin and nature of the brown spots that appeared in the sea of San Giovanni a Teduccio and on the correct functioning of the ABC lifting systems in via Boccaperti – Borrelli stated – in addition to monitoring the phenomenon reported by citizens to ensure that it does not turn into a disaster of greater proportions.
This episode highlights the urgency of proceeding rapidly with the redevelopment of the coastline of the eastern part of the city, which, to date, remains in disastrous conditions despite the numerous promises and proposals put forward by municipal administrations in recent years. We have long been fighting to protect and enhance the sea as a resource. We have achieved important successes such as the bathing suitability of the Neapolitan seafront and the establishment of the Gaiola marine protected area.
Now is the time to give back to the citizens of San Giovanni a Teduccio and the entire eastern area of the city this precious resource, mortified over the years by inappropriate urban planning choices and general disinterest towards a coastline that deserves a very different future".
