Naples. On Friday morning, a woman living in Ischia took the 8:40 hydrofoil to reach the central station and head to Milan, where her son was waiting.

At the Beverello pier, she was approached by an illegal taxi driver who offered her a lift: "I have an illegal taxi, we have to make a living too." After giving in to the man's insistence, once she got into the car, she was offered a coffee.

Despite her initial refusal, the man went down to get a coffee for himself and brought one to her in the car as well.

He offered her a "strange-tasting" coffee.

"The coffee was long and strange tasting," the victim reported to the Carabinieri. From that moment on, the woman no longer remembers what happened. She was found in a confused state in a countryside near via Nuova Poggioreale, robbed of all her personal effects, including trolleys and money.

Her family found her at the Carabinieri station, still under the influence of drugs: "She was babbling and couldn't stay awake." After the complaint, they turned to MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli to report the case.

“A disturbing episode,” commented Borrelli, “which is horrifying for the cruelty with which this criminal drugged and abandoned the victim in the countryside, without worrying about his fate.

We will monitor the case closely until those responsible are brought to justice. We cannot allow people arriving in our tourist hubs to fall prey to unscrupulous criminals. We need greater law enforcement and zero tolerance for illegal immigrants.”

The victim's daughter's complaint: "What happened is absurd."

“My mother is still a little dazed,” declares Melania Di Meglio, “but she is a strong and responsive woman. I am sure she will recover soon. We want to bring this case to light to prevent it from happening to others.

It's absurd that at Beverello pier, patrolled by the police, there is the presence of such individuals who, aided by the chaos of illegal taxi drivers, manage to carry out their robberies undisturbed.

They target the victim, surround him, drug him and then, as happened to my mother, abandon him like waste in the countryside. A terrible thing!”
