Naples. A hard blow to copper theft on the Italian railway network. The Railway Police arrested a man and reported another, both Romanian citizens, after seizing 25 quintals of stolen copper cables.
The recovered copper is estimated to be worth around €20.000. This operation is the result of an information-investigative effort aimed at combating copper theft, which causes economic and operational damage to the railway network, as well as endangering public safety.
The Polfer agents, following a suspicious van, identified the two thieves in Casandrino. copper cables, hidden under a pile of objects, could be traced back with certainty to Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, thanks to their exclusive identification codes.
The two arrested are accused of aggravated receiving of stolen goods
The 27-year-old was arrested, and his arrest was validated by the judicial authorities. The 25-year-old was reported at large. Both are charged with aggravated receiving stolen goods and conspiracy to commit theft. The van used by the thieves was seized.
