As part of the investigations ordered by the Campania Regional Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Auditors, the Naples Local Police served a cease-and-desist order on a business in Piazza Mercato. The business, which sold toys and garden supplies, had been operating from premises owned by the City of Naples and illegally occupied since 1999.
The family that ran the business, using a complex system of registering various companies and rotating legal representatives, managed to operate without paying any taxes to the municipality or the state. The clearing and return of the premises to the municipality is scheduled for mid-July.
The operations will involve personnel from the Investigative Team, the Heritage Protection Operational Unit, and the Administrative Regularity Service of the Municipality's Heritage Area. Similar operations to combat illegal occupations and commercial abuse are already planned among the priorities of the Local police in Naples.
