Naples. Protecting animals from the intense heat: this is the goal of the ordinance signed by Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, which bans the use of horses for pulling carriages and for recreational activities during the hottest hours of the day.
Stricter measures : The ban, in force from June 12 to September 15, 2024, applies from 12 noon to 16 p.m., an extension compared to the previous limit, which was set at 35 degrees.
The threshold drops to 30 degrees, in line with the forecasts of the daily bulletin issued by the regional Civil Protection for the urban area of Naples, when the risk levels are 2 or 3.
The ban in force until September 15th
Scientific data at the base : the ordinance draws inspiration from a study conducted by Plinivs, a research centre of the Laboratory of Urban Planning and Territorial Planning of the Federico II University of Naples, which analysed climate change in cities and the risks associated with heat waves.
Collaboration with the ASL Napoli 1 : the initiative was also carried out with the contribution of the Veterinary Urban Hygiene Operational Unit of the ASL Napoli 1.
Penalties for violators : anyone who does not comply with the ban risks an administrative fine ranging from 25 to 500 euros.
