Torre Annunziata. The Prosecutor General's Office has requested life sentences for all four defendants in the second-degree trial for the murder of Maurizio Cerrato, the caretaker of the Pompeii Archaeological Park, killed in Torre Annunziata on April 19, 2021.

The request was made this morning at the end of the closing speech by Deputy Attorney General Ginevra Abbamonti, during the hearing at the Naples Court of Assizes of Appeal.

In the first instance, all the defendants - Giorgio and Domenico Scaramella, Antonio and Francesco Cirillo - had been sentenced to 23 years in prison.

The prosecution's demands

The magistrate requested the recognition of the "full" competition in theCerrato murder for Giorgio Scaramella, who—according to the prosecution—had requested and obtained the intervention of the other attackers after the initial argument. In the first instance, his position was defined as "anomalous complicity."

For the remaining three defendants, the Attorney General's Office instead requested recognition of the aggravating circumstance of futile motives.

The civil parties

In the courtroom, as in the other hearings, the victim's wife and daughter were present, Tania Sorrentino and Maria Adriana Cerrato, the latter an eyewitness to the tragedy.

Lawyers John Verdoliva and Antonio Marinaro, lawyers respectively for the victim's wife and daughter, expressed satisfaction with the requests made by the Attorney General's Office.

"The Attorney General's Office - the two lawyers stated - he supported the reconstruction according to which all the defendants took part in the murder of Maurizio Cerrato".

Upcoming hearings

The next hearing is scheduled for June 17th. At that time, the remaining civil parties will have the opportunity to present their arguments: lawyers Giovanni Verdoliva, Antonio Marinaro, and the lawyer for the Municipality of Torre Annunziata.

If there is time, one of the lawyers for the four defendants, Maria Montuoro, who is defending Francesco Cirillo, is also scheduled to speak.
