As part of a large-scale operation to combat online child pornography, coordinated by the Catania District Attorney's Office, the State Police made nine arrests in flagrante throughout the country.
The investigation, conducted by the Cyber Security Operations Center of the Postal Police of Catania, led to the investigation of 26 people for possession and dissemination of child pornography.
The investigations were coordinated by the National Center for the Fight against Online Child Pornography (CNCPO) of the Postal Police Service. The investigations began with the computer analysis of some electronic devices seized from a suspect previously arrested for similar crimes.
On these devices, within a messaging platform, groups dedicated to exchanging images and videos of abuse on very young children were found.
The meticulous technical investigations allowed the identification of the subjects active in the groups, leading to the issuing of personal and computer search orders by the Prosecutor's Office.
The searches were carried out in collaboration with the Postal Police Cyber Security Operations Centers in Catania, Rome, Milan, Brescia, Varese, Bergamo, Catanzaro, Bari, Foggia, Turin, Cuneo, Genoa, Imperia, Avellino, Livorno, Prato, Ravenna and Ascoli Piceno.
Those arrested reside in the provinces of Catania, Rome, Milan, Florence, Bergamo, Ravenna, Varese and Imperia. During the searches, it was found and seized child pornography material, including thousands of files and the digital format of the book entitled “The Pedophile’s Guide”.
The seized material is now being examined by the investigating magistrates and the Postal Police for further investigative investigations that will also be useful for identifying the small victims.
