Camorra clan dismantled in Salerno: 22 arrests and one under house arrest

A severe blow to the Salerno Camorra. A joint operation by the Salerno Flying Squad and the Nocera Inferiore Carabinieri Territorial Unit led to the arrest of 22 people and the issuance of a precautionary house arrest order for another individual. All are charged with mafia-style criminal association, possession with intent to distribute narcotics, extortion, robbery, receiving stolen goods, and illegal possession and carrying of weapons, all aggravated by mafia methods and purposes.

The investigation. The operation, coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of the Salerno Prosecutor's Office, represents the development of an ongoing investigation in the Nocera-Sarnese area, which had already led to the arrest of several members of the Fezza-De Vivo and Giugliano Camorra clans in December 2022.

The new investigations, also corroborated by the statements of some collaborators of justice, have allowed us to reconstruct the modus operandi of the clan and to outline a complete picture of its illicit activities.

The criminal group was mainly involved in drug dealing, controlling the territory also through extortion against entrepreneurs and traders.

The investigations also brought to light the connivance of some compliant entrepreneurs, who acted as collectors of extortion to the detriment of other competing entrepreneurs, forced to pay the clan up to 5 thousand euros per month. The suspects are charged with eight episodes of extortion, all aggravated by the mafia method and purpose.

Weapons. The clan also had an arsenal of weapons: during the operation, two rifles, three pistols, and numerous rounds of ammunition of various calibers were seized.

The convictions. For the facts covered by the December 2022 order, the Salerno preliminary hearing judge recently handed down convictions against some of the defendants.

The fight against the Camorra. Today's operation represents an important step forward in the fight against the Camorra in the Salerno area. Law enforcement will continue to work to dismantle the clans and restore legality in the area.
