Naples. Salvatore Allard, 59, has requested a summary trial (which excludes further evidentiary acquisition) in his trial for the murder of police officer Domenico Attianese.
The officer was killed on December 4, 1986, during a robbery at the Romanelli jewelry store in the Pianura district of Naples.
Allard, who has already undergone a successful rehabilitation program, is accused, together with Giovanni Rendina, 60, of having fired the fatal shot against Attianese.
Rendina, who was not present in the courtroom at the preliminary hearing because he is still hospitalized, could follow the same strategy as Allard and ask for the abbreviated version too.

It is expected that the position of at least one of the two defendants could be finalized at the next hearing, scheduled for July 23.
According to the investigators' reconstruction, Attianese intervened in the robbery after being alerted by his 14-year-old daughter. During the fight with the bandits, the policeman was fatally wounded in the head by a gunshot.
The investigation, coordinated by anti-mafia prosecutor Maurizio De Marco, was complex and conducted on a long-standing case. However, thanks to the investigators' commitment, they were able to shed light on a brutal crime that profoundly affected the Pianura community.
