Mayor Manfredi: “The Municipality of Naples is alongside these paths of knowledge”.

The three scholarships for the eleventh edition of the National Award 'Amato Lamberti' were awarded at the Sala Giunta of Palazzo San Giacomo Napoli.

The Nino Daniele Prize president introduced the proceedings, while Luciano Brancaccio and Anna Maria Zaccaria, members of the jury, explained the reasons behind awarding the doctoral theses prize to Giordana Pepè of the University of Milan-Bicocca, and the master's theses prize to Tea Maistro of the University of Milan and Laura Bellucci of the University of Rome 'Tor Vergata'.

The certificates and the thousand-euro check were presented by Professor Nando Dalla Chiesa, president of SISMA, the Italian Scientific Society for Mafia and Anti-Mafia Studies.

"Three women were awarded, and this supports my theory that the backbone of the anti-mafia movement is female. This is a revealing scientific fact." Dalla Chiesa underlined, who then remembered Amato Lamberti "He was an important figurehead in the Academy, where the phenomenon of organized crime was largely ignored and understudied. I think it's fitting that this award be named after him."

And then he added: “The anti-mafia movement of the 80s represented a fracture in our society, I remember the demonstration of one hundred thousand in Ottaviano against the boss Cutolo clan and in Palermo the march in Ciaculli on the estate of the Greco family. It was precisely in this period that I discovered Lamberti, a sociologist who gave strength to the nascent anti-mafia movement in a climate of heartfelt participation by civil society and the young people who over the years have put down roots in the country”.

The mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi, after greeting the winners, thanked Nando Dalla Chiesa for his presence and underlined: “Like Amato Lamberti, he always managed to combine the hard work of an administrator with action and research, understanding specific phenomena. Things that are obvious now, but 20 years ago were truly revolutionary. The decision to hold the Amato Lamberti National Prize at Palazzo San Giacomo is very important; the City of Naples must support these paths of knowledge to develop effective responses.

The mayor then spoke about the complexity of phenomena such as organised crime: "We need to study them, understand their origins, their nuances, and their processes. It's a difficult task that's needed to make the fight against them effective, not just by law enforcement and the judiciary." "Mafias are constantly changing; imagine the impact of new technologies. We need to specialize to narrow down the gray areas, the influences, and the infiltration." - concluded Manfredi -.

Interventions by journalist and writer Gigi Di Fiore Amato Lamberti was among the first to include texts on the Camorra in his courses and to bring to the university not only sources from judicial documents but also newspapers to construct a more complex description and account of this reality. and the reporter Marilena Natale: “In my life I have always looked for examples to follow and Amato Lamberti was an example for my education and for my life choice to fight criminal culture”.

A special plaque was presented by Aldo De Chiara to Claudio D'Esposito, president of WWF Terre del Tirreno and head of the WWF protected area of Sant'Agnello, Sorrento Peninsula. The awards, three scholarships, were funded by patrons: the "Museo del Vero e del Falso" (Museum of Truth and Falsehood), directed by President Luigi Giamundo and represented by Antonio Iervolino, a member of the Small Industrial Union Group of Naples; the Rotary Club Napoli Posillipo PHF 1999 Distretto 2101, chaired by Luigi Morgera and represented by Dr. Fabio Orefice; and the companies: EPM, owned by Carmine Esposito, represented by Dr. Alberto Napoletano; and Tecno, owned by Giovanni Lombardi. We also thank Professor Antonio Ricciardi of the Adipietro Association for his support of the historic Gran Caffè Gambrinus, led by Arturo and Antonio Sergio; the Radio Siani Social Cooperative, led by Giuseppe Scognamiglio; Radio CRC, led by director Umberto Russo; and the IOD publishing house, led by Pasquale and Francesco Testa, who published the book "Amato Lamberto and Giancarlo Siani – A History of Civil Passions and the Fight against the Camorra," edited by Nino Daniele.

The conclusions and thanks were given by Roselena Glielmo Lamberti, president of the 'Amato Lamberti' association.
