African anticyclone reaches Italy: heat wave on the way.
Contents
Meteorologists confirm that the arrival of the African anticyclone on Italy is due to the expansion of the heat associated with the formation of an Iberian-Moroccan baric gap.
This low pressure area, located between the Canary Islands, Morocco and the Iberian Peninsula, generates a counterclockwise rotation of the currents that pushes continental subtropical air masses northwards directly from the Sahara towards our country.
Crossing the Mediterranean, these air masses also carry high humidity, favoring the formation of afternoon thunderstorms, especially in inland areas.
Temperatures rising
The GEA infographic shows the temperature expected for today and tomorrow. Maximum temperatures will exceed 30°C in many areas of Italy, with peaks of 35-38°C in the inland areas and on the major islands.
What to expect
The heat wave will bring with it sunny and muggy days, with possible peaks of heat especially in the afternoon hours.
Tips:
Drink a lot of water: It is important to stay properly hydrated during the hottest days, drinking water frequently even if you are not thirsty.
Avoid the hottest hours: If possible, it is advisable to carry out outdoor activities in the early morning or late evening, when temperatures are lower.
Wear light, breathable clothing: Choose cotton or linen garments that allow perspiration and help keep the body cool.
Pay attention to risk groups: The elderly, children and people with health problems are more vulnerable to high temperatures. It is important to pay special attention to them and help them stay cool and hydrated.
