Procida. The theft of an electric bike has sparked a private justice system reminiscent of the biblical law of retaliation, "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth," and has led to three people being reported by the Carabinieri of Procida.
A 49-year-old man and his 47-year-old partner had their e-bike stolen by a 22-year-old local man. After reporting the incident to the Carabinieri, the couple decided to take justice into their own hands.
Thanks to the images from the security cameras installed on their property, they identified the alleged thief and, without notifying the police, carried out their revenge.
They waited for the 22-year-old to dive into the sea for a swim and took away one of his electric bicycle (other than the stolen one) and the cell phone.
The couple reported for arbitrary exercise of their rights
Their gesture led to a counter-complaint by the 22-year-old for aggravated theft. In addition, the couple was reported by the Carabinieri for arbitrary exercise of their rights.
