The initiative opens the season of historical reenactments, enhancing the role of Cava in the regional panorama.

400 extras, musicians, artists and actors to reenact – last Saturday – the passage, in 1535, of the Emperor Charles V of Habsburg through the city of La Cava.

The sovereign, who had the arquebusiers in his entourage, on that occasion reconfirmed Cava's status as a state-owned city and all the privileges already granted by previous sovereigns, starting with the white parchment.

The reenactment—now in its seventh year—was organized by the Pistonieri - Archibugieri Santa Maria del Rovo social promotion organization, with the patronage of the Municipality of Cava de' Tirreni, and aims to highlight the history and cultural identity of Cava, which has always been a key player in the regional landscape. The parade concluded with the theatrical performance "Lo Imperatore a La Cava," directed by Geltrude Barba.

“I am very satisfied with this seventh edition of the re-enactment which entertained and amazed the spectators, characterized by many new features and organized with ever greater attention to detail. – said the artistic director and coordinator of the event Giuseppe Apicella - A result obtained thanks to the synergic work with the passionate friends of the Ente Pistonieri Santa Maria del Rovo, which next year will celebrate 50 years since its birth, represents the backbone of this event, which enjoys ever-increasing esteem in the panorama of national historical events".

"We are thinking of announcing, for next year, the award for best extra and of having tourists participate in the parade. We invite enthusiasts from now on to propose themselves to collaborate in an effective manner in an initiative that represents one of the cornerstones of the cultural identity of a city that is well suited to welcoming cultural tourism.”, added Apicella.

The story of the missing parchment - Cava de' Tirreni has preserved its archive documents for centuries, which are essential sources for reconstructing its history.

In March 2023, the expert Aniello Ragone found online an auction sale, already held in 2004, relating to a sixteenth-century document. In particular, the document is the reconfirmation of the Emperor Charles V, to the city of Cava de' Tirreni (then La Cava), of the privileges obtained by the latter from the various previous rulers. The reconfirmation of Charles V was obtained on March 22, 1536. The document was sold, by the auction house Christie's, on July 7, 2004 with lot number 33 (previous sales were in 1970 and 1997). The document - inalienable heritage - was stolen from the Municipal Archives.

Confirmation of the ownership of the city of Cava de' Tirreni can be deduced from some details and historical documents still in existence in the city archive. A pencil “missing” was added to the nineteenth-century index in 1973 by the Superintendence of Archives for Campania, which verified the presence of the existing files in the Cava archive (this absence can also be deduced from the index, from 1986, drawn up by Dr. Rita Taglé, director of the Municipal Historical Archive at the time). The Municipality of Cava has requested the return of the document through the Municipal Attorney's Office.

Groups participating in the event – In addition to the Santa Maria del Rovo APS Ets Pistonieri Association, the following participated in the historical reenactment “The Imperial Procession of Charles V”: the “Luigi Einaudi” Cultural Center of San Severo (FG); the historical procession of Teggiano (SA); the Italian Association of Catholic Teachers, Nocera Inferiore section (SA); the Marino Marzano Historical Group of Sessa Aurunca (CE); ATSC Association of Trumpeters, Flag-Wavers and Knights of Cava de' Tirreni; the NUNDINAE aps Study and Research Center of Gravina di Puglia (BA); the Knights of the Lily of Nocera Inferiore (SA); the street artists “Compagnia Santo Macinello” of Chieti; actors from the “Fuori Tempo” association of Cava de' Tirreni; the musicians of the “Compagnia del Cervo Bianco” (NA); the medieval joust organized by Professor Antonella Adinolfi.

The show “Lo Imperatore a la Cava” was staged by the company “Fuori Tempo Teatro Luca Barba”, with text and direction by Geltrude Barba. Assistant directors Giuseppe Apicella and Giovanni Basile; historical research by Aniello Ragone. On stage the actors Giuseppe Cardamone; Pietro Paolo Parisi; Marco Gallo; Cristina Vitale; Lucrezia Macri; Rossana Lamberti; Ester Tortora; Carla Russo and Giovanni Falcone.
