The Campania Region has allocated €3,55 million to municipalities for seismic risk prevention. These funds are intended for conducting Level 1 and 3 Seismic Microzonation studies, as well as assessing and analyzing the Emergency Limit Condition (ECL) of urban settlements.
Seismic Microzonation studies aim to study the dynamic behavior of soils in response to the stresses of an earthquake. This process allows to identify and characterize stable zones, zones susceptible to local amplification and zones subject to instability, such as landslides, fault ruptures and dynamic liquefactions of the soil.
Thanks to a decisive action by the Region Campania, supported by the approval of a specific decree and the publication of the "expression of interest" in the Official Bulletin of the Campania Region (BURC) n.

For Level 1 Seismic Microzonation, which also includes the CLE, the joint participation of municipalities is encouraged. This analysis aims to provide a comprehensive picture of the local response to an earthquake and determine the threshold beyond which the urban settlement maintains the operation of most of its strategic emergency functions, ensuring accessibility and connection to the territorial context.
The allocated resources are granted to municipalities in exchange for a minimal cost-sharing. This initiative is essential to provide municipalities with crucial information for land management, planning, emergency response, and post-earthquake reconstruction. Seismic Microzonation studies, in fact, aim to streamline knowledge of the surface alterations that seismic shaking can cause.
The decree on seismic microzonation complements the one approved last April, which allocated €17,2 million for interventions on strategic municipal buildings as part of seismic prevention. Furthermore, for areas affected by bradyseism, seismic microzonation is required and implemented pursuant to Article 2 of Legislative Decree 140/2023.
