Salerno. The Carabinieri of the Anti-Adulteration and Counterfeiting Unit (NAS) of Salerno have blocked 15 foreign websites that were illegally selling prescription drugs.
The operation, conducted as part of an online monitoring activity aimed at combating cybercrime, led to the issuing of an access prohibition order by the General Directorate of Medical Devices and the Pharmaceutical Service of the Ministry of Health.
The websites, which featured the same graphical interface, offered the sale of drugs for human use with a prescription requirement, advertising its shipment to Italy outside of legal channels.
This posed a potential health risk to consumers, who may have received counterfeit or improperly stored products.
The operation by the NAS of Salerno is part of a broader framework of controls on the online market, a rapidly growing phenomenon favored by the anonymity of the Internet and by regulatory differences between countries.
