Eleven people were arrested today by the Carabinieri on charges of criminal association aimed at exploiting and facilitating prostitution. The operation, coordinated by the Salerno Prosecutor's Office and conducted by the military, led to the issuing of a precautionary measure order by the investigating judge of the Court of Salerno.
Five of the suspects were placed under house arrest, while five others were banned from residing in the province of Salerno. Another suspect was hit by a ban on residence in the municipality of Pontecagnano Faiano. The investigations revealed the existence of three distinct criminal groups, led by two Salerno men aged 60 and 56, who ran eight brothels and two night clubs, where prostitution activities took place.
These illegal operations extended not only to Salerno, but also to the province. As part of the same operation, the preventive seizure of a bed & breakfast in Pontecagnano Faiano was ordered. The owner of the structure is accused of having encouraged and exploited prostitution, making the rooms available to women and transsexuals at a higher price than the normal one.
Another episode that emerged from the investigations concerns one of the suspects, who allegedly robbed a client of a prostitute. According to the investigators, the suspect threatened the customer, preventing him from enjoying the agreed sexual service and stealing a sum of money from him.
