In a recent interview with Corriere della Sera, Maurizio Sarri expressed his regret at the lack of offers from Italian clubs following his farewell to Lazio. "Phone calls? Not from Italian clubs, unfortunately. And honestly, I'm a little disappointed. There were empty benches at teams I thought would be a good fit for me. I wasn't even approached for a chat. The presidents make the decisions, of course. But I deserved to be listened to for at least a quarter of an hour.", said the coach.

Among the teams that had been hypothesized for his return to Serie A were Milan and Fiorentina.

"They were two teams suited to me, of course.", admitted Sarri. However, he believes that the choice to focus on young players has prevailed. "We're focusing on young people, and that's fine. But experience remains a valuable asset, it shouldn't be thrown away. Just look at the ages of the coaches who won the Conference, Europa League, and Champions League this year: 63, 66, and 65. It's no coincidence. Of course, if no one approached me, it was probably because I made some mistakes, too. A thoughtful reflection is needed.", he added.

Reflecting on the past, Sarri recalled his farewell to Chelsea with bitterness: "It was a very painful journey, with plenty of family arguments. Let's just say that as a Napoli fan, I struggled. I shouldn't have left Chelsea, that's all. That's the mistake I regret most. There's no doubt about it. There were good foundations to stay, but I made a big mistake. We won the Europa League, the project was great, but I wanted to return to Italy, unfortunately."

Sarri also revealed a regret related to Milan: "Maybe Milan. I was so close, but then they didn't want me. Napoli came along, the most intense experience of my career." Regarding Napoli's current situation, which saw the arrival of Antonio Conte after a disappointing season, Sarri commented: Napoli will have to work hard, revolutionize their way of playing. The good thing is that Conte is very quick in these situations to convey his mentality. I don't see them falling outside the top three. The positive side of last year is that they lost ground, but they were and are a strong team.
