Naples. From June 15th to 17th, Scampia will transform into a true "capital of childhood" by hosting the "Festival of Children's Cities," the final event of the national project "Ip Ip Urrà - Childhood First."
The project, selected by Impresa Sociale Con i Bambini as part of the fund to combat child educational poverty, saw the participation of numerous partners, organizations, and schools across 10 Italian regions.
A community journey culminating in Scampia
The "Ip Ip Urrà - Infanzia Prima" project involved a total of 15.648 children, 11.347 parents and caregivers, and over 80 operators, carrying out more than 400 initiatives including courses, events, workshops, and neighborhood parties on a national scale.
The community journey, which began in 2020, will culminate in Scampia with a festival open to the city that will see the participation of around 150 people from 10 Italian regions.
A festival full of events and meetings
The festival will be an opportunity for families from across Italy and around the world to connect with the Scampia community and the city of Naples. Three days of workshops, parades, meetings, and a final conference will enliven the neighborhood. Two hotels, a religious residence, and the Chikù Center will be the base for participants, while many local organizations will be involved in national initiatives, such as the Scampia "Musica Liberi Tutti" orchestra, which will partner with Genoa's "TrillArgento."
Renowned workshops, writers and pedagogists
The festival program includes workshops and meetings with writers, pedagogists and muralists of national and international fame, including Massimiliano Maiucchi, Cristina Bellemo and Roberto Piumini.
A final conference to launch the Manifesto for Children
On June 17, a national conference will be held in the Aula Magna of the University of Naples Federico II. It will feature leading figures from institutions, universities, and the third sector, as well as families, writers, urban planners, and pedagogues.
During the conference the "Manifesto for children" and the publication "Parole Apuntate - il quaderno di Ip Ip Urrà" will be published.
A project to combat educational poverty
The "Ip Ip Urrà - Infanzia Prima" project was selected by Con i Bambini as part of the Fund for Combating Child Educational Poverty, a project born from an agreement between the banking foundations represented by Acri, the National Third Sector Forum, and the Government. The Fund supports interventions aimed at removing obstacles that prevent children from fully enjoying educational processes.
An opportunity to reflect on the future of childhood
The "Festival of Children's Cities" represents an important opportunity to reflect on the future of childhood and to promote a culture of listening and active participation among children. The Scampia event will be a time of celebration and encounter, a chance to celebrate the richness and diversity of Italian childhood.
