Scampia is once again enveloped in a thick blanket of black smoke, caused by yet another fire that broke out last night, June 23, near the Cupa Perillo Roma camp. This area is sadly known for its frequent environmental disasters. The flames and explosions that characterized the blaze have caused great concern among local residents.
A resident complained: "We can't stand these nighttime fires any longer. The toxic fumes are poisoning us!" According to MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli (Green-Left Alliance), the cause of the fire is the illegal disposal of waste, including hazardous materials, by the camp's occupants. "This phenomenon causes serious damage to the environment and public health, as well as creating a dangerous situation for public safety," Borrelli declared.
The MP urged ARPAC to intervene to monitor air quality and keep citizens informed. "For years, we have been denouncing the dramatic situation in the Land of Fires and the illegality of the Roma camps, which are tolerated while their occupants put their lives and the health of everyone at risk ," Borrelli emphasized, emphasizing the urgency of stopping this "massacre." For this reason, Borrelli proposes a prevention plan that includes the use of video surveillance and drones, as well as the permanent closure of the illegal settlements.
